Week 8

Triangular vs Tekamah-Herman & Fort Calhoun, Make up Dual vs Schuyler

On Jan 25th, the Logan View wrestling team (Boys) hosted a triangular with Tekamah-Herman & Fort Calhoun while also making up a dual with Schuyler the same night. It made for a longer night of wrestling but it was also military appreciation night along with senior/parents night. To start the night the Raiders dropped the first dual to Class B Fort Calhoun, and its second one vs Class B State Duals seed #4 Schuyler. We honestly got off to a bit of a slower start and weren’t quite able to recover vs Fort Calhoun. Schuyler on the other hand is very very tough. They always have been. Their kids always compete very well so we knew going in it was going to be a high level dual. Ultimately the Warriors were victorious. In the final dual of the night the Raiders took on unbeaten (in duals) Tekamah-Herman. T-H had already beaten Fort Calhoun earlier in the night, and a victory over Logan View would have sent them to Kearney for their first State Duals appearance. HOWEVER! Logan View had other plans, to play spoiler for the Tigers. The Raiders came out on all cylinders and won every swing match and defeated T-H, 39-34 with it coming down to the very last match. It was an incredible moment when Marcus Foust secured the victory over one of the Tigers to seal the deal and the gym absolutely erupted! It was an electric atmosphere!

Ord Invitational

On Jan 26, the Raiders had an early morning leaving the school at 4:45am to travel to Ord for a tournament that features a lot of schools that we don’t typically get to see. The tournament featured Class C#1 Broken Bow, and Class C #2 Battle Creek. We do see those two squads at our own tournament but we also got to see some other western schools like Burwell, & Ravenna who have some really tough lineups as well. Gibbon also has a competitive group this year compared to years past as well. The Raiders scored 103 points to finish in 7th place. Right behind the Buffaloes of Gibbon. The Raiders also medaled 5 wrestlers individually as well. Cesar Kaup (JV), Aiden Crawford, Owen Meyer, Chance Foust, and Braydon Wobken.

DID YOU KNOW?

Sophomore Cesar Kaup is a JV wrestler that competed in a varsity tournament and medaled 5th place this week? At Logan View our schedule is set up to allow our JV wrestlers to wrestle in 8 of the 10 tournaments we go to. Regardless of varsity or JV status, being a wrestler gives you equal participation opportunities to medal in regular season tournaments. At Logan View, 100% of our roster each year competes (or has the opportunity to) in 90% of our varsity competitions. No other sport can say that! Not even Track or Golf! We also accommodate the 2 tournaments that the JV’s cannot compete in and send them to 2 JV meets so that way they have 100 percent of the opportunity to compete as a varsity wrestler. 10 tournaments and 8 duals. Circling back to the first topic. Cesar (as a JV wrestler) took full advantage of his opportunity and medaled in the Ord invitational to earn his first Varsity medal in his career!

WRESTLER OF THE WEEK

Week 8 - Cesar Kaup (Sophomore @ 138lbs)

(Ce. Kaup Quote) - (“The Grind Never Stops")

(Streeter's Comments) - Cesar started wrestling not that long ago. I believe he just started in Jr High during his 8th grade year. He has improved tremendously since that time and continues to get better and better each day in the wrestling room. He has descended down from his initial assessment weight to finally be at a weight that is more suitable/manageable to his body size. This past week having him medal at the tough Ord Invite is just a preview of what is to come for the rest of his career. He appears to be very focused on improving so that way he can take another jump to become a regular varsity competitor in the coming years. On the mat this last week he didn’t always score first but he kept working and grinding and eventually his cardio and determination ended up winning out. A 5th place medal at the Ord Invite is extremely impressive for a JV wrestler. Cesar was our “non scorer” that day so the team did not earn team points from him, but the joy on his face after knowing he medaled is what told the whole story. A very fun moment to be a part of.

2/10 - The Logan View Wrestling Team is off until districts at Battle Creek on Feb. 10. As previously mentioned on social media. We exhausted our efforts trying to get into a tournament this weekend but we were told “no” by 5 tournaments. Weather cancellations created a situation where it was first come first serve and we were not high enough in line at the time of asking.
