Week 5

Wisner-Pilger JV Invite

On Jan 2, the Logan View JV wrestlers traveled up to Wisner for a JV round robin tournament. The tournament featured 11 schools including Logan View. The format of the tournament was 4 man round robin brackets. With multiple brackets in a weight class wherever necessary. This is to keep wrestlers from the same schools from wrestling each other (if possible). The Raiders took home a 3rd place team finish behind Schuyler, and Crofton-Bloomfield. Logan View scored 120 pts and had 4 individuals get 1st place. All of the Raiders gained valuable experience and mat time while at the tournament.

Wilber-Clatonia Dual Tournament

On Jan 5, Logan View traveled to Wilber, NE to compete in the Wolverine Duals. The tournament featured 10 teams including the Raiders. Each school was paired up in an initial dual to start the tournament. Logan View matched up with conference foe, Louisville, and knocked them off 60-21 to start the day. The win sent Logan View into the winner's pool of the tournament where it would face the other winners of round 1. The Raiders were victorious over Arapahoe 34-33 in Round 2. Arapahoe entered into the dual with a record of 10-0 before the Raiders handed them their first loss of the dual season. In rounds 3 & 4, Logan View lost competitive duals vs host school Wilber-Clatonia, and also Milford. Both are state rated in the top 6 of NEWrestle’s rankings. Central City Invite

On Jan 6, the Raider wrestling team competed in Central City for one of the toughest tournaments of the year. This tournament featured 16 schools that saw multiple top ranked teams and individuals within the tournament. Logan View finished 11th out of the 16 with 68 points. Minden won the tournament with 189.5 points while host Central City was the runner up with 137 points. This was a grinder of a weekend as the Central City invite came to a close the Logan View wrestlers had amassed 9-10 matches in a 2 day span. With a lot of those being competitive full matches rather than quick pins. Unfortunately Braydon Wobken had to medically forfeit out of the tournament after an injury in the semifinals.

WRESTLER OF THE WEEK

Week 4 - Marcus Foust (Freshman @ 126lbs)

(Foust Quote) - (“Easy” makes things hard, and “Hard” makes things easy.)

(Streeter's Comments) - Marcus has been a very nice addition to the wrestling program as he has shown some tremendous readiness in transition to the high school ranks. Just a freshman, Marcus shows a commitment to the program and works hard each day at getting better and better. He brings a bit of an unorthodox approach on the mat and that can make it difficult on his opponents, and he continues to get better on his feet out of a tie. 126 is a very competitive weight class and Marcus’ record sits at 21-10 currently. We are really excited for his future.

Week 5 - Sam Peters (Senior @ 132lbs)

(Peters Quote) - (“Every morning you have two choices: Continue to sleep with your dreams, or wake up and chase them”)

(Streeter’s Comments) - Sam had a tremendous weekend over the WC Duals and the CC Invite. Sam was much more aggressive on his feet, and looks poised to make a step forward beginning this second half of the year. He wrestled as the 9 seed at Central City and pushed himself into a 6th place finish. The Central City invite was a grinder and Sam responded well to the task at hand. He pushed the pace on his feet keeping his opponents off balance. He continues to improve his conditioning as he came back from some time away while sick. It always takes time to get that conditioning back a little bit when you have a few days off. As he continues to push his cardio, his opponents could be in for a grind of a match. I think Sam could make some noise down the stretch if Central City was a preview of things to come.
