Four Logan View FFA members qualified for State LSE’s during the District III Leadership Skills contest Nov. 24 at West Point.
Only the top two individuals or teams in each of 10 leadership skills events qualifies. Logan View state LSE qualifiers are Brooke Ellerman, Hope Hemme, Adam Kruger and Carol Ready.
Approximately 300 students and parents were in attendance for the 2009 district contest. Over 250 students from 11 schools competed with the hope of qualifying for the State contest to be held in April.
The district contest also awards sweepstakes plaques to the top two schools in the large school and small school divisions. Large schools have 50 or more high school members in FFA, and small schools have less than 50 members.
Points for the sweepstakes are determined by individual placing
with a purple earning four points, blue earning three points, red
two points and white earning one point. Team event points are
doubled.
Logan View earned one district champion honor and three runners-up.
Logan View placed 3rd in the sweepstakes contest--just one point
out of second.
Senior Carol Ready was champion in the Employment Skills contest. Senior Adam Kruger was runner up in Senior Public Speaking. Junior Brooke Ellerman was runner up in Natural Resource Speaking, and sophomore Hope Hemme was runner-up in Junior Public Speaking. Additionally, sophomore Liz Uehling was an alternate to State in Cooperative Speaking. These students will be eligible to compete at the State Contest this coming April.
"The students did a great job competing in a very competitive District," said FFA advisor Dan Mowinkel.
