Math isn't always the easiest subject for students to grasp. But students at Logan View High School, north of Fremont, are fortunate. They have a special teacher named Sharon Rief that has an uncanny ability to make math less frustrating and more fun.
Sharon has a natural, God-given ability to make students want to become better learners. And that's why we decided to surprise her in front of the entire student body.
The person responsible for Sharon's Golden Apple Award is graduating senior Adam Kruger, "She breathed new life into our school, with her enthusiasm and love of life. My experience with math prior to Mrs. Rief, was anything but stimulating. She makes it a challenge, and you can see how important math is in life. She makes it fun, not by playing games or giving treats, but by helping you realize that you can solve problems."
Principal Rochelle Rohren Clausen admires Mrs. Reif's ability to lead, "She's a superstar teacher and I think most of the staff here kind of look to her as a model."
Sharon says she loves the process of inspiring teenagers, "I believe that every kid has something that they can be very good at and I want them to find that and to work on that and to continue working on that."
Adam is pleased that his efforts allowed Mrs. Reif to be honored by 10/11, "It was good. It was a good feeling. I'm always one of those people that like to give people their 15 seconds of fame is what I'd say. I have a lot of respect for Mrs. Rief and know that she is very deserving of this award."
