Voters Approve Bonds for Elementary Construction
May 15, 2010
Voters gave their approval for $6.995 million in bonds to fund the building of a new elementary school addition to the Logan View campus at 2163 County Road G. The bond vote passed by a margin of 567-285 (67-33 %). Voter turnout in Dodge County was 46.1 percent.
Superintendent Steve Wilson praised the district's Board of Education. "The board worked incredibly hard putting together the right project for the right money at the right time," Wilson said, "using public consensus to arrive at a building and finance proposal they felt the patrons of this district would be open to."
Wilson also praised the district's patrons. "I believe both the margin of support and the voter turnout are evidence of a community that understands and accepts its vital role in the public process to educate its youth for success in the 21st century," Wilson said. "Facilities do matter and do impact student achievement and development."
Finally, Wilson praised the Kids Committee, whose volunteer members fulfilled an important "public communications" role during the months between the Feb. 22 ballot resolution and the May 11 election day. "Volunteers were committed to providing accurate information and appropriate referrals so that individuals were prepared to vote their own conscience."
