FCCLA….One Small Step for Man but One Giant Leap for FCCLA
Wow….We have really been putting in the hours in all of the opportunities to learn and develop leadership skills. Whenever an activity takes place concerning FCCLA, members do all of the planning and carrying out of what needs to be done in order for an event to be successful.
Activity #1: Members just completed a successful
fundraising event. With the profits the chapter is able to offer
speakers at their meetings, help with conference costs, and other
leadership opportunities.
Activity #2: On Monday, October 26th after a light meal over 40
members ―trick or treated‖ in Uehling and Hooper for food to donate
to the local Food Pantry. It was a huge success and lots of fun was
had by all of the ―goblins‖ that attended. A big thank you to all
of you who contributed items for the drive and a big thank you to
the parents that helped that night.
Activity #3: On October 28th, 52 members attended the Fall
Leadership Conference at the Camp Joy Holling Camp. The theme
was…Color Your Future with FCCLA. Our local chapter got to see
leadership in action by having Abby Stollberg, Logan View chapter
member, take the lead as District 4 President. She presided over
the installation of the District 4 officers and the general
meeting. Brooke Ellerman is working towards being a State Officer
Candidate for the 2009-2010 school. She was required to give a
three-minute speech at the general assembly on the leadership
opportunities of FCCLA, take a test over the components of the
organization and go through an interview with the chapter
delegates. Chapter members attended mini sessions on leadership,
community service, physical fitness, career opportunities, and etc.
Kendra Bloch, a State Officer for this year, presided over one of
the mini sessions. She is the State Vice President of the state’s
outreach program involving the support of the program, Child Life,
at the University of Nebraska Med Center.
Activity #4: The officers were busy planning the lunch stand at
the Hooper Boutique which was held on Saturday, November 7th. It
takes a lot of planning and hard work to serve over 700 people at
this event so we thank everyone who helped in any way.
Activity #5: Behind the scenes we already have members working
on their STAR presentations and projects. STAR stand for Students
Taking Action with Recognition. This big event will take place on
Wednesday, January 27th at the Logan View High School.
Activity #6: Every Wednesday, the officers conduct a ―working
lunch‖ meeting to facilitate all of the planning it takes to run
our chapter.
As you can tell from reading our long list of activities, we
definitely are taking ―One Giant Leap with FCCLA‖ with all of the
opportunities offered in our chapter.
