The LVSS softball team finished their season 14-17. Districts were held in Yutan this past week, and the ladies finished in 4th place. Three seniors finished their careers and will be sorely missed: Kendra Bloch, Elizabeth Boschult, and Emily Dahl.
The Raiders' last regular season game was held in Uehling on October 5. They narrowly defeated the North Bend Tigers 4-3. There were only four hits. Shelby Wobken had a single and a double and Chelsie Rangeloff, Erika Pribnow and Elizabeth Boschult each had a hit.
In the opening district game, #4 LVSS was paired with #5 seed, Arlington. The Raiders struggled at the plate and were shutout. Emily Dahl and Kylie Anderson were the only two players to earn hits. Shelby Wobken allowed two hits from the mound and struck out 12 but was defeated 2-0.
In the second game of the day the ladies met up with rival
Bishop Neumann. The two teams had split earlier in the season so
meeting at districts was sure to be a grudge match. Five hits were
enough for the Raiders to score three runs from. Hits came from
Erika Pribnow (2 singles), a double from Emily Dahl and singles
from Britni Broussard, Shelby Wobken and Chelsie Rangeloff.
Wobken contained Bishop Neumann from the mound, striking out seven
and allowing one run.
On Friday the ladies returned to Yutan to play Arlington for the second time. “We were hoping our bats had a little more in them today than they did yesterday,” said Coach Wobken. “We allowed their pitcher to have 9 K’s, which made scoring difficult.
“I told the girls we needed to cut that number way down and they listened. We went from 9 to 2 in that category. We scored in the first inning and again in the 4th but were a bit too comfortable. We allowed Arlington to battle back for one in the 4th and two more later on, winning in the bottom of the 7th when their final run crossed the plate on a passed ball. It was a tough way to have our season end.”
Hits came from Shelby Wobken (a double and a single), Kylie Anderson (a double), Britni Broussard and Emily Dahl (each had base hits).
“I can’t say enough about our team this year. We’ve battled a lot of injuries and illness. We had more than our share of girls step in at the last minute to fill a position, some without a lot of experience. Chelsie Rangeloff is just one example of someone who really stepped things up. She did a great job behind the plate. She got better with each game and was a real leader. She listened, she learned and she improved. She has a voice that can be heard and that’s exactly what we needed.”
