The LVSS softball team moves their record to 12-15 after another week of play.
They defeated Class C #10 rated Wisner-Pilger 5-4 at the “Ribbon Cutting Ceremony” on Sept, 28. The Raiders came from a 4-0 deficit, allowing all four of Wisner-Pilger’s runs in the first inning. Defensively the girls were tough from then on. Shelby Wobken had a tough first inning, walking two and allowing a home run. She went into shut-down mode and struck out 14 Gators after that.
The ladies chipped away at their opponent scoring one run in the
3rd, three in the 4th and one more to win the game in the bottom of
the 7th.Chelsie Rangeloff led the hitting attack with a double and
a triple. Britni Broussard was close behind Rangeloff with a triple
and a single. Others with hits were Shelby Wobken and Erika
Pribnow.
On Tuesday the ladies traveled to Wayne where they were soundly
defeated by the Blue Devils, 8-1. “Wayne hit us really hard
tonight. They had three hits in the first inning, one of which was
a homerun, and six more hits in the 5th,” said Coach Roni Wobken.
“We have to find a way to stop the string of hits when a team gets
on a roll. Our fielding has greatly improved and the team is
playing games without a lot of errors. We tend to be a team that
allows teams to have a big inning against us – often the very first
inning of the game. Once we get that inning out of the way, we are
awfully tough from the mound.”
Abbie Hunke was consistent from the plate leading the way with two
singles. Erika Pribnow, Emily Dahl and Shelby Wobken contributed
one hit apiece.
Not only was the temperature cold Saturday morning at the Wahoo
Quad, but also were the Raider bats. LVSS went down to Wahoo High
8-0, Bishop Neumann 10-0, and narrowly defeated North Bend 3-2.
There were only three hits in the Wahoo game. Chelsie Rangeloff
pounded a double and Shelby Wobken and Erika Pribnow both singled.
Pribnow took the loss on the mound.
In the second game of the day, the bats continued to be plagued.
Three hits were all that could be mustered against Bishop Neumann.
Britni Broussard, Erika Pribnow and Liz Boschult singled. Pribnow
took her second loss of the day.
In the final game of the day, the Raiders faced North Bend. Like
the temperature, the Raider bats warmed up a bit, but not a lot.
Six hits were tallied: two by Emily Dahl (a single and a double), a
double by Britni Broussard and singles by Abbie Hunke, Shelby
Wobken, Marisa Ruwe and Erika Pribnow. Shelby Wobken got the
win.
Districts begin Thursday in Yutan at 10:00 a.m. #4 LVSS faces #5
Arlington in the opening game. Other teams competing in districts
are Yutan, Wahoo, Wahoo Neumann, North Bend and Fort Calhoun.
