The LVSS softball team went down to Class B rated Lakeview 1-0 last Monday night in Columbus. “The girls played well enough defensively to win, but you aren’t going to win any ball games if you can’t score runs,” head coach Roni Wobken said. “We get ourselves into position to score and continue to be plagued with base running errors, mental mistakes or hitless at-bats. We are making improvement every day, which is exciting. This is a group that really wants to experience success, and we are right on the verge of something very exciting.”
It was a dry night at the plate for the Raiders. Earning hits were Shelby Wobken with a double and a triple and Marisa Ruwe with a single. Wobken took the loss on the mound.
On Thursday South Sioux City came to Uehling. The Cardinals went home early, only crossing the plate one time to LVSS’s nine. Shelby Wobken got the win on the mound, striking out seven batters in six innings. Emily Dahl led the hitters with a double to the fence. Wobken, Ruwe, Brooke Ellerman and Kendra Bloch contributed singles.
In the David City Tournament, the Raiders went 2-2. They lost to rated Twin Rivers in an exciting game 5-4. They defeated Class C #1 Yutan 1-0 in extra innings. They downed Schuyler 3-0, and were beaten by Cross County 3-2 in the final game of the day. Rangeloff and Wobken were named to the All-Tournament Team. More information about the David City Tournament games will be in next week’s paper.
