"This is the time we have all been waiting for," Alyssa Pierce, Logan View High School senior class president, said as she welcomed family and friends to the 42nd annual commencement ceremony Sunday afternoon.

Thirty-six seniors entered the Logan View gymnasium for the last time as students while the high school's concert band, led by Andrew Norris, played "Pomp and Circumstance."

The 2010 graduates received some advice from senior classmate and salutatorian Jodi Popken.

"Choose the right hunches," Popken said, "and maximize your opportunities."

Popken, who drew her inspiration from Dr. Seuss's "Hunches in Bunches," also suggested mentors have taken on the role of "super" hunches.

"Parents and teachers have helped to guide us down the path that we are on," she said.

She also suggested the young adults avoid the "nowhere" hunches as they embark on future endeavors.

Valedictorian Adam Kruger also had some advice for his classmates, which he picked up from his springer spaniel.

"All I really need to know I learned from my dog," Kruger said.

First Kruger said that Max always has time to listen, even if he doesn't understand everything. "I need to be a better listener," he said.

Kruger said the second thing that he has learned is to be forgiving. Even though he scolds Max, Kruger is quick to forgive his canine companion.

The final words of wisdom from Kruger were to, "Live for today."

Kruger talked of the excitement Max has every time his food dish is filled.

"Max, it's dog food," he said. "It's the same food as always."

Courtesy of his dog, Kruger believes that, "Today we have today."

The ceremony concluded with a triumphant yell and the traditional tossing of the mortar boards before the 36 students, now alumni, exited the gym to receive the hugs and congratulations for 13 years of hard work.
