Veteran's Visit Elementary
November 17, 2009
We had area Veteran's come to the 5-6th grade classrooms and visit with us about their experiences as Veteran's fighting in foreign wars. They each had stories to tell and some even brought old photos and clothing. Some wore their uniforms. Each was given time with the students to share their memories and why it is important to remember Veteran's Day. They spoke about the Pueblo Revolt, Vietnam and Korean Wars as well as World War II.
Mr. Martin read the Folding of the Flag to our students and then
we had Glen Ready and Tommy Geisler (both Boy Scouts) come in and
show how to fold our flag. The students made Veteran's Day posters
that were distributed in our local communities and they all
contributed to a special garland that was placed in Hooper's VFW
and American Legion Halls in Hooper. Josh Marreel, recent
Logan View graduate, also took time to stop in this week and give
an update on his experiences through the Marines.
Veteran's
Visit
We would like to thank our volunteers for helping to educate our students on this special holiday. We also want to thank Mrs. Thomsen for organizing this year's event. Several of our classes are writing to service men and women during the year.
We also had a presentation of $25 to Madison Obermiller and Makayla Heir-Leif for winning the local essay contest , Voices of Democracy, sponsored by the Hooper Auxillary.
