5th Grade Visits Boystown and Durham
May 15, 2009
The fifth grade class at Logan View went on their final field trip on May 7th. They started out at Girls and Boys town where they learned about the history of Boys Town. They toured the facilities, saw housing where students live, visited the house of the late Father Flanagan (pictured here) and ate at the campus welcome center. The students also were shown the movie called Boys Town in preparation of their visit to fully understand the importance of this great facility.
They then headed downtown to the Durham Museum where they learned about Native American homes and westward movement. They learned that Omaha held the World's Fair and a grand exhibit was developed just for that purpose. They learned about the history of railroad development through Nebraska and were able to board a train that actually ran during the 1930's-1970's. The students left with a better understanding of Omaha's role in the development of westward expansion in the United States.
We encourage all families to take some time this summer to visit both of these facilities for themselves. We have so much history close to home to enjoy.
