7th & 8th Grade Pilot Project
October 17, 2007
Students in grades 7-8 at Logan View are participating in a two part pilot project sponsored by the Nebraska Department of Education.
Eighth grade students are currently enrolled in a 9 week block class called Careers. This class, under the instruction of Patti Kraus and Chris Good, exposes students to the Career Clusters model and provides information on a wide variety of occupations. A web site, www.nebraskacareerconnections.org, is being used in conjunction with materials created by Nebraska teachers. Students in the eighth grade are investigating a multitude of careers, finding what college courses are needed, expected income earned and what classes Logan View offers in preparing them for their selected career. Field trips and/or guest speakers are being used to enhance this learning experience.
Seventh grade students will be involved in the Strength Finders survey offered through Gallop University. Each student will complete a multi-question survey. At the conclusion of the survey, three significant themes/talents will be identified. Students will then be able to understand what talents/strengths they have to offer and what possible career options they have that mesh with their strengths. Logan View is one of five Nebraska schools piloting the Strength Finder survey.
The school's web site will depict a talent each week and give a detailed explanation of that talent. Students, parents and teachers will be able to better understand the talents that lie within Logan View's middle school students.
